A review of the youth band 2015

Lions Youth Brass Review 2015

As 2015 comes to a close I would like to reflect on what has been another successful year for the Youth Band.

In February the band produced another quality recording with World of Sound where the theme was a celebration of the organisations 25th anniversary. The disc, which featured many of the bands talented soloists, also included a selection of regular concert repertoire.

As we moved into April the band once again competed at The National Youth Championships and again were runners up. The band has had a remarkable run at The Nationals with four second places in the last five years. Over a longer period the band have been in the top three, 13 times in the last 16 competitions. When you consider the constant change of players year after year, that is a record to be very proud of.

During the year the band performed many concerts to a consistently high standard and were very well received by all our audiences.

Our summer tour was once again a great success. Jane, as always had produced a great series of concerts and made sure that everyone had a great time.

At the start of September the band had its usual set of personnel changes but some very strong concert performances has put the band in a very strong place for the challenges that lie head.

During the year the band enhanced its partnership with The Fodens Band with workshops and solo performances and also welcomed conductors Mike Fowles and Mark Bousie on a regular basis.

The band also continued to work hard within the local community and with all local schools to raise its profile and also continues to be a leading partner of The Love Music Trust.

2016 promises to be another busy, challenging and rewarding year and we always need to be mindful of how we have reached our very prominent position within the youth movement so we can continue to evolve and maintain our position as one of the leading Youth Brass Bands in the country.

I would like to thank everyone for their continued support of the band and wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a very happy and prosperous 2016.
