Celebrating with the LMT

All three bands perform at Clonter Opera as part of Love Music Trust celebrations

The charming setting of the Clonter Opera theatre was the setting for the Love Music Trust annual music celebration concerts on Saturday June 25th. The Youth Band were old hands at performing as part of these celebrations, however the Junior and Beginner bands were delighted to be invited for the first time.

The Juniors were the first band to perform. Under the baton of Steve Barwick - his debut conducting performance with the band - they wowed the audience with their mature playing in two slower items, Abide With Me and Scarborough Fair, before letting their hair down with the summery Latin Fiesta, La Bamba and Uptown Funk.

Next up was the Beginners. They reprised their prize-winning National Finals programme, featuring the back row in Hear Me Roar (with also included two players - Jim and Verity - playing in their first ever concert!) and also including a bit of 'Bond' in Skyfall. The audience demanded an encore which duly arrived in the form of the jazzy Monday Blues.

Finally, in the evening's concert, the Youth Band took to the stage showcasing a number of their items for their forthcoming tour. A highlight of the programme was the solo performance of our Principal Euphonium, Cameron Brooks, who put in a performance of Portrait of My Love that John Barber descried as demonstrating 'great control.'

If you missed it, don't worry as there are still plenty of chances to hear the bands before the summer break, starting next Sunday afternoon (3rd July) at Congleton Park bandstand.
