Junior Band preperation for Leicestershire Open Competition
Sunday 2nd November, Lions Junior Brass welcomed the virtuoso quartet Low Tones
'n' Baritones for a masterclass and workshop day in preparation for the
forthcoming Leicestershire Open Competition.
Performing with the quartet were fourth year students from the Royal Northern College of Music: Matthew Watling (euphonium/bass - freelance), George Bruce (euphonium - Roberts Bakery Band), Sarah Lenton (solo baritone - Foden's Band) and Nicholas Birch (baritone/trombone - Fairey Band).
After a day of sectional and full band rehearsals with 'Low Tones', Harry Bent (percussion - Roberts Bakery Band/Birmingham Conservatoire) and our own Steve Barwick, the day culminated with a pizza tea! followed by an hour's recital in the Theatre Space at Sandbach School.
The Junior Band previewed their forthcoming competition programme under MD Tom Hancock before Low Tones took to the stage to wow family and friends with repertoire ranging from 'Stingray' and their own special arrangement of 'Happy', to Monti's 'Czardas' and the finale from 'William Tell Overture'.
